How to Select the Right Gearbox for Harsh Mining Conditions?

Mining equipment – crushers, conveyors, hoists, ball mills – operates under heavy loads, constant impact, and dust. The gearbox, as the core transmission component, must deliver exceptional reliability, impact resistance, and durability. Correct selection is key to stable operation and lower maintenance costs.

II. Which Gearbox Type for Which Application?

Planetary Gearbox

  • Compact, high torque density (2-3x ordinary reducers)
  • Excellent impact resistance
  • Ideal for impact crushers, hoist drum drives
  • Case-hardened design boosts wear resistance

Reduction Ratio

i = motor speed / equipment required speed. Example: 1500 rpm motor → 50 rpm drum → i=30

Minimum IP65; underground use IP67+

Lubrication

Heavy loads (ball mills) → forced circulation. Light/medium → oil bath with regular change (every 3-6 months).

Installation & Coaxiality
